The way to confident painting is through practice. Sarah will paint alongside you and share her tips and tricks to successful painting in oils or watercolours, pen and ink or acrylic. With a mixture of plein air and studio work in stunning locations.

Sarah is a professional artist with years of experience in many media, she has travelled a lot with her paintbrushes and loves to share her knowledge and experience, she believes that everyone can enjoy painting and that there is always something new to discover.

About: “Sarah studied fine art at Falmouth Art School and graduated with a degree in 1981 and has been working as an artist ever since. She spent six years teaching art in Norway and became head of the Art Department at the International School of Stavanger.  She also lived in France for four years where she ran successful residential art holidays. For the last 10 years she has been based in Cornwall painting and giving demos and workshops across the country.

A professional artist and illustrator, the only English artist -animator to work on the film “Loving Vincent” and, through sheer practice, an expert in the style of van Gogh.  Sarah has exhibited with the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, The Discerning Eye, the RI and the RWS as well as numerous solo shows.  Sarah has written two painting books and illustrated hundreds of other titles as well as working on BBC Jackanory. She is Artist Ambassador for Artlook Software and Artist Ambassador for Royal Talens.”

 

A SHORT GUIDE ON WHAT TO BRING AND WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR PAINTING IN ITALY WEEK WITH SARAH.

Each morning you are invited to help yourself an abundant and healthy buffet style breakfast, including: eggs, cereal, yoghurt, artisan bread, croisant, jams, honey, cake, juices, tea and coffee.
The mini bus then awaits you at the studio to take you to your location for the day. Your punctuality is appreciated.
Some days you will eat at a local trattoria close to your location, all have been advised that a speedy and not too leasurly lunch is required so that students can get back to their projects without too much delay! Some days you will be provided with a packed lunch box.

Sarah will be available in the studio every afternoon from 4 to 6 pm to help, advise and encourage you.
We down tools each day and meet at the guest house for Aperitivo and Stuzzichini at 6.30
Followed by dinner at 7.00pm.
Should anyone wish to go back to the studio to paint in the evening on thier own or with company they are requested to advise Sylvia and lock up and return the key at pre agreed time.

We recommend that you pack a sun hat/cap or visor a shower proof jacket and a small tube of ANTHISAN cream for bites as you may encounter the odd mossie or two.
Please also pack bathers or a cozzi just in case you feelike taking a dip in the river. Flip flops are not recommended. We suggest gym shoes or trainers, although we park on the flat:you may have a few stones to climb over before you reach the water.

Some guests like to have a short siesta after lunch, or you may wish to relax with a book. We have 2 hammocks in the garden and a small book library.
Sylvia is happy to offer suggestions of things to do and see in the area for any Non Painting Partners.

 

THE ITINERARY

Friday 21st
Guests arrive.
A light lunch will be provided. Guests settle in and familiarise themselves with the surroundings unpack and settle in get to know the other guests.
A light supper is provided.

Saturday 22nd
The course starts with A Sensorial Experience.
You will be encouraged by Sarah to shetch, draw, paint a very Special Sensorial Still life. In the studio.
On the table Pungent wild Rosemary. A chunk of Aromatic fresh Parmesan Cheese,a bottle of local wine with a fragrant bouquet, juicy ripe figs, all selected to awaken your sense of smell and Appetite!
A crusty loaf of fresh bread.
When you have completed your still life we will then eat and drink what is there on the table!
Afternoon in the studio.
Go out for Pizza to La Baracca for the best Pizza in town.

Sunday 23rd
La Colomba Tolarolo
This is an outdoor location en plainair where you have a distant view of the Castle and a view of the river valley.
A set lunch will be served at the tratoria.
The afternoon will be spent back at the studio, where you can complete your project.
Dinner at the guest house.

Monday 24th
Pianelleto This is a very Atmospheric Abandoned Village…..
With crumbly old walls and buildings. It is a 40 min drive from the studio so an early start is preferred.
Please note this is the only location where there are no loo facilities available! An pioneer spirit is required, but I must add that every guest has loved the views and the experience.
Studio in the afternoon.
Dinner at the guest house.

Tuesday 25th
Ponte Lecca. This is a lovely shady water location.
If you wish bring your bathers/cozzi, as you may wish to cool off and have a dip in the river.
A set lunch will be served at the Tratoria just a stone’s throw away.
The afternoon can be spent back at the Studio to complete your study.
Dinner at the guest house.

Wednesday 26th
Brugnoli Cheese Factory.
Here you will have the opportunity to draw /sketch paint the Cows perhaps even the Calves or alternatively the view.
You have the chance if you wish ( absolutely no obligation)to purchase some vacuums packed cheese which Sylvia will store for you until your departure.
There is a short tour of this family fun ARTISAN small cheese making factory.
A packed lunch box will be brought to you there, we are offered the use of Brignoli’s rustic spacious meeting room.
The afternoon can be spent in the studio completing your projects
There will be a cooking demonstration in the guest house you are invited to participate if you wish.
We then eat what Cheff Lisa makes!

Thursday 27th
Market Day in Bardi.
This is an opportunity to shetch paint draw the vibrant and colourful market stands or the local folk
Shopping chatting or just sitting in the cafes.
A set lunch will be served outside at a local trattoria il Pelicano
The afternoon will be spent in the studio with a final sesion with Sarah going over your progress over the week tidying up and packing away.
Dinner at the Guest house.

Friday 28th
Breakfast. Departure Day and final farewells to new friends.
