“I am a painter, printmaker and mixed-media artist, a devoted teacher, a dog-lover, a wife and mother, and a very enthusiastic traveler.
I’ve exhibited my work internationally, and my work is in many private collections.
My portrait subjects include politicians and princes, lords and ladies and actresses, and scores of adorable children. And lots of dogs!
I have an MA in Drawing, and have taught at university level and in adult education for over 30 years.
Now I just love to lead art workshops and share my enthusiasm for drawing and color, without the constraints of the academic red tape. It’s thrilling for me to make a suggestion, to light a spark , and then watch each student embark on their own journey and find their own voice.
To hear a student say, “I can’t believe I did that!!!” is such a joy!
For many years I was primarily a portrait painter.
Then in 2005, I moved to the Middle East, (where I met Sylvia, who was one of my first students there!) and had the opportunity to travel even more broadly.
My work changed to be more about capturing a sense of place and the people who inhabit it. I always travel with a sketchbook, and have drawn and painted in Ethiopia, Kenya, Aleppo in Syria, India, Sri Lanka, all over South East Asia and South America and more.
Sometimes the work stays in the sketchbook as a record of happy memories. Other times, I use the drawings as the basis for much larger works in acrylic and oil.
I am so excited to have this opportunity to paint and work with other artists (as soon as you pick up a pencil, you ARE an artist, even if you are a first time beginner!) in the beautiful surroundings of Casa Bezzia.
I look forward to creating beautiful work together!”
